#WedwithCourtly: Wesley and Jennifer
Wesley and Jennifer's love story is one of serendipity, laughter, and a touch of adventure. From their first meeting on a golf course to a picturesque elopement on the Amalfi Coast, their journey is a testament to the beauty of simplicity and spontaneity. Their story is as charming as it is unforgettable.
How did you two meet, and what was your first impression of each other?
A couple, who were friends with both of us, invited us to play golf, which I think was a bit of a setup. But there was no pressure, and it turned out to be an easy way to learn about each other's backgrounds without the awkwardness of a typical first-date interview. By the end of the day, we found ourselves sharing a cart and having a fun conversation.
We were both standing by the check-in, waiting for our friends, not knowing who the other was. I thought he was cute and athletic, but what really made me laugh was his shirt—it had pineapples wearing sunglasses. Right then, I knew he would be fun and not too serious.
He says he noticed me immediately because of my smile.
Why did you choose to get married through Courtly, and what was the experience like?
We decided to elope to Positano, Italy. After having a beautiful engagement party with our friends and family, we wanted our wedding to be intimate, just for us. It was important to me that our ceremony and wedding license have a specific date, which was the anniversary of our first date and our engagement one year later. This tradition meant we couldn’t sign a marriage license in California before our trip.
The experience was almost too easy! I was nervous in the days leading up to it, worried that if something went wrong, we wouldn’t have a backup plan. But it was so simple to log in and set everything up, even with the time difference—4 PM in Italy, which was very early in the morning in Utah. We did have one technical glitch: we were outside on our balcony with a gorgeous water view as our backdrop. Right after we finished our vows, our phone overheated in the afternoon sun, and we got disconnected from Courtly. We eventually cooled it off and moved inside to finish the ceremony.
It was also great that we could share the video stream link with our family.
What was the most memorable moment from your wedding day?
So many moments stand out! We loved walking through town with our photographer, navigating the narrow paths and shops. But what always makes me laugh is the vintage Fiat 500 we rented—the engine kept dying! We caused so many traffic jams as we drove out of town and along the Amalfi Coast. But we did get some beautiful photos. On the way back into town, Wes and I sat on top of the seats through the sunroof, and the Italians shouted, "Auguri, auguri" (congratulations). It was fun and festive, just perfect.
How has married life been so far, and what are you most looking forward to in your future together?
Married life is pretty much the same as before, which is wonderful! I think getting married when you’re older gives you the advantage of perspective, so we both came into it not expecting marriage to change or fix anything in our relationship. But there’s a stronger sense of permanence now, and we’re looking forward to more great days and trips ahead.
Do you have any advice for other couples getting married soon?
Elope! It was so easy and stress-free. The days leading up to it were filled with beautiful meals, wonderful conversations, and a deep sense of connection. On the day itself, we walked through town to pick up our cake and flowers, and it was beautiful. I hope everyone gets to enjoy their wedding day as much as we did.
